The 8th China International Hotel Industry Conference, co-hosted by the China Hotel Association and the Haikou Municipal People's Government, opened in Haikou, Hainan. On November 30th, at the 2023 China Hotel Industry Professional Managers Annual Meeting and Cultural Theme & Boutique Hotel Annual Meeting, the China Hotel Association and HXE jointly released the "2023 China Meeting Hotel MICE Market Internet Development Report."

The report uses big data to analyze consumption trends in the MICE market (Meetings, Incentives, Conferencing/Conventions, Exhibitions/Expositions, and Events), providing data support for hotel management decisions.

1. Characteristics of Changes in Enterprise Meeting Demand: Participant Size and Meeting Type

Compared to the whole 2022, the frequency of medium-to-large-scale events with over 100 participants increased in the first three quarters of 2023, with the largest increase seen in meetings with over 1,000 participants. However, the demand for meetings with fewer than 100 participants still accounted for 60% of the total. From the perspective of meeting type, the demand for training sessions, dealer conferences, and seminars/forums saw significant growth. However, the demand for press conferences decreased, reflecting that companies are now focusing more on the substance of their meetings.

In the first three quarters of 2023, statistics on enterprise meeting consumption types show that the demand for catering and dining events has been increasing year by year since 2019, reaching its highest level for the first time in the first three quarters of 2023. The frequency of catering needs has changed significantly, increasing from 23% in 2022 to 33.2%, becoming the second largest consumption type. In terms of venue selection for corporate meetings, luxury hotels remain the top choice for MICE events, accounting for 63.8% of the meeting budget in the first three quarters of 2023, indicating that companies prioritize standardized hotel services and management. Meanwhile, more and more companies are considering unique venues for their meetings, and their meeting budget share has also increased.

3. Trends in Corporate Meeting City Selection

With the gradual improvement of the national high-speed rail network, the frequency and budget share of companies holding meetings in different locations have shown a year-on-year growth trend since 2019. In the first three quarters of 2023, both the frequency and budget share of meetings held in different locations exceeded 50%. Regarding city selection for off-site meetings, companies are increasingly choosing second- and third-tier cities. In the first three quarters of 2023, the demand frequency for meetings held in second- and third-tier cities accounted for 58%.
